I did have a traditional About Me page, which I just changed to this, because I don’t know who that person is anymore (that I was writing about back then). Who knew that 2 hard years can completely (physical, emotional and psychological) change someone at this age? I think this page is going to be a digital experiment, something like, every 3-6 months–depending on what happens–I will add or delete what is on this page and start all over again?
I emigrated from Budapest, Hungary to Canada (Nelson, BC) in 1989. My mother was a librarian and my father a failed-actor-turned-business guy. They ended up being partners in private businesses, eventually owning almost all of the cool restaurants and night clubs in Budapest before the wall came down. We were rich. My dad is a brilliant mind, but as they go, he is impulsive and makes some bad moves. I hardly saw him while growing up, and was raised by his mother who was, IS, my best friend still and guardian angel. She passed more than 20 years ago. My mom is the rock of the family. I am the middle-child and definitely have the “syndrome.”
Accomplishments? Well, I have a degree from the University of British Columbia, (International Relations), a diploma in Broadcast Journalism from the British Columbia Institute of Technology, I have lived in New York City, Los Angeles and Beijing, China working in the fields of media, PR and as a singer. I was an intern at the View with Barbara Walters and met Peter Jennings and Diane Sawyer, while finishing the internship at Good Morning America. I have worked at all three local news stations as a news writer; BCTV on Global, CTV and City TV. I went from a freelance contributor to the Vancouver City Editor for Sweetspot.ca, and I was on the start-up team of Nowpublic.com, the largest citizen journalism site in the world (AND named TIME Magazine’s “50 Best Websites of 2007″). I’ve been published in Western Living Magazine, Blackbook Magazine’s Jet Set Travel Guide, Travelmuse.com, Montrealtechwatch.com and I am currently a blogger for Techvibes.com.
So what is my job? I am a freelancer: writer and blogger, journalist, speaker, social media participant and co-founder of a meta search application called SPLRG.com. Now, I am preparing for the adventure of a lifetime. I had an idea, I pitched the project and it has manifested, so I’ve become the first ever travel blogger for the Canadian Tourism Commission’s Media Centre using social media tools to promote the country and get the buzz going. It kicks off Jun 21 in Montreal, Canada.
